Hey you guys! Guess what?! Lisa from My So Called Yoga Life has nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! Me! Thank you so much Lisa! She was my first official follower on my email list when the blog started and now she has passed this on to me! I am humbled and grateful! Plus I love reading her blog as much as I love going to a yoga class… maybe even more since I don’t have to leave the couch!
The Sunshine Blogger Award is an opportunity to recognize a blog that inspires you and imbues creativity. It’s a wonderful time to let your fellow bloggers know just how much you enjoy reading their blogs and observe their accomplishments. Along with the nomination Lisa has asked me to answer a few questions as well as nominated a few blogs that inspire me!
1. How did you get involved with blogging?
I actually started my first blog when I went abroad for a semester my Junior year of college! I decided to blog about it as a way to keep in touch with people that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to, plus now it’s fun to go back and look at what I was up too! I spent my semester at University of St Andrews in Scotland and traveled a bit and I wanted to share that with friends and family! That blog would have been hard to transition and upkeep at the time but I always had a bit of an itch to get back to it and with some encouragement here we are! Additionally, my life has been lacking a creative outlet since I don’t dance as much as I used to (or at all… we’ll save that for later) and this seemed like a perfect avenue to channel my energy.
2. How do you think your readers would describe your blogging style?
I’m guessing they find my writing to be conversational, like sitting down for tea with a (very) chatty friend, Please correct me if I’m wrong!
3. Where do you find inspiration for your posts?
All around me! That might sound cheesy but it’s true, inspiration is all around you if you just look for it. Some days are harder than others to let the words really flow but once I get on a roll it is hard to stop! I love to post about fashion and self care, but sometimes that takes a back seat if some adventure comes up along the way!
4. How has blogging improved your life?
I haven’t been blogging very long, but I feel like Rosy Point of View has been really rewarding! From getting great feedback from people, to making new friends in the bloggersphere! Most importantly, for me, blogging has given me a creative outlet that my life had been lacking recently. Sometimes I still struggle to make content but I am enjoying getting those creative juices flowing again. Also writing and photography are very different from dance so it has been fun exploring my new voice!
5. What has been the most challenging aspect of having your blog and how do you work on that?
For me the biggest challenge has been staying on schedule with everything! And honestly I’m not very good at it, and most of that comes from moments of not feeling like I have anything important to say or just being exhausted after work! So, I’m working on it! I keep a day planner that I try to stay on top of and am working on scheduling posts ahead of time so I don’t find myself frantically typing the day I want to post something! I’m a work in progress!
6. What has been the most enjoyable aspect of being in the world of blogging?
The community! I have started collaborating with other bloggers and building an engaging audience. Sometimes I get disheartened when I see people with thousands of followers but then I look at how many of my followers actually comment and read things! I love it! Plus getting to know other bloggers has been beyond words amazing! I still have so much to learn and they have been so inspiring and informative!
7. What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog?
Working! I work as a biomedical researcher full time, so blogging and that are pretty time consuming. But actually I also try to practice yoga and my boyfriend and I rock climb (ok he rock climbs, I cling to the wall). I try to have a life: grab tea with a friend, see a concert, hang out with my parents… the usual… clean my apartment (maybe).
8. What networking do you do that you feel has benefited your blog the most?
I think finding my tribe in a few facebook groups has been the most rewarding for me! Like I said the community of bloggers has been brilliant! They have helped increase my engagement on some social media, shared my content with their followers, and encouraged me to keep up the work! I’m still finding exactly where I fit but the advice and opportunities many of my new blogger friends have given me are invaluable!
9. What do you think the best thing is that a blogger can give to readers?
Inspiration! Whenever I right a post I hope my readers can take the content and use it for themselves. If its a fashion post I hope they find something they like or are inspired to just be themselves with it, to take what I did and change it! Maybe I can inspire them to go on a new adventure and say yes to new opportunities! I want my readers to want to take care of themselves, try new things, be true to their spirit!
10. What is your favorite post on your blog? Why do you like it the best?
I think my favorite, right now, is my post about why I got into yoga, Root and Rise! This post was really personal for me but also really fun. I think it is my favorite post on the blog right now because it brings together so many parts of myself, I talk about my emotions and about the struggle to try new things. I hope I can encourage at least one reader to say “yes” to trying something new!
11. What has been your strategy for creating visibility for your blog?
I use Instagram, as well as Facebook, to create other content for my followers and to promote new posts on the blog. Additionally, I have been trying to start collaborating with other bloggers! Creating an uplifting community around Rosy Point o View and engaging with my followers is my main priority, no matter the number!
I nominate the following blogs because I am always excited to read what they are up to, am inspired by their creativity and persistence, and am constantly learning from them! Please go check them out and spread the love!
Flask Half Full: This blog is actually written by one of my dear friends, Annie! We met during at grad. school and are still friends now! She writes anecdotes about here experience as a PhD graduate student and shares advice for other students. Go for the science, stay for the fun!
Gift of Gabby: Gabby started the Six Blogger Style group I collaborate with, but she also is an entrepreneur! She shares great product reviews, is a marketer for Chloe and Isabelle, and photographer!
Confession of a Daydreamer: Amy started her blog for those who want to know more about living beautifully (while also helping to eliminate animal testing), living simply, living purposefully, and living honestly!
